FR : Jovan est un garçon de dix ans, qui est handicapé. Il s’échappe souvent dans un monde inventé, où il est un superhéros. Il y est libre de ses doutes et des limitations de son corps. Cela semble suffire pour lui… Jusqu’au jour où Milica arrive à l’école et s’installe à côté de lui dans la classe. C’est une jeune fille rebelle, qui veut « libérer » son père de sa nouvelle copine. Milica est persuadée que c’est une sorcière! Et elle en a la preuve: des potions magiques, du sel noir et des créatures bizarres… Elle espère réunir ses vrais parents une fois que la sorcière sera démasquée. Jovan l’aide avec plaisir, et oublie ses propres problèmes. Un film honnête sur l’acceptation et sur la confiance en soi, et comment la solidarité nous pousse à être meilleur. EN : Jovan is 10 years old, and he has a handicap, cerebral palsy. He escapes into his imagination more often than not, where he’s not so self-aware of himself and his limitations of his body. He makes up a whole world, where he’s the superhero. That seems enough for Jovan. Until Milica shows up. She’s a tomboy, who’s new at school and becomes his classmate. She asks for his help: her father is trapped by his new girlfriend, who is definitely a witch. Milica is convinced: she has seen the evidence! Potions, black salts, weird creatures… Milica is determined to expose her and reunite her real parents. Jovan helps her, with pleasure! It’s also a way to forget about his own problems… An honest movie about believing in yourself and accepting reality, and how helping your friends brings out the best in everyone. This picture won ‘Young People’s Film Award’ at the TIFF Kids International Film Festival 2018.
NL : Jovan, 10 jaar, is een jongen met een handicap. Hij vlucht dan ook vaak weg in zijn droomwereld, waar hij niet constant zelfbewust is en vooral… niet beperkt door zijn lichaam. Hij verzint een bovennatuurlijke wereld waarin hij een superheld is. Dat lijkt genoeg voor Jovan. Tot de dag dat Milica, een stoer meisje, opdaagt op school, en naast hem komt zitten in de klas. Ze vraagt zijn hulp: ze wil haar vader redden van zijn nieuwe vriendin, die een echte heks is. Ze is overtuigd, en heeft bewijs: groene drankjes, rare wezens in potten en zwart zout. Milica hoopt haar te ontmaskeren en zo haar echte ouders weer bij elkaar te brengen. Jovan helpt haar met plezier, en vergeet zo zijn eigen problemen een beetje. Zijn onzekerheid verdwijnt om een vriendin te helpen. The Witch Hunters is een eerlijke film over zelfvertrouwen en aanvaarding, en hoe vriendschap het beste in iemand kan bovenhalen. De film won de ‘Young People’s Film Award’ op het TIFF Kids International Film Festival 2018.
