Synopsis
“The island will take care of you,” a grandmother whispers to a baby chick as she passes from hand to hand in a small group of women. Her mother, who had gone abroad, entrusted her to the community. It takes a village to raise a child, and this is how Nana grew up, on a volcanic island where the sky seems to invite itself into the houses. Ode to a certain simplicity, evoking a fragile nature, Hanami takes a bewitching look at the volcanic island of Fogo. Poetic journey of Nana where dreams and reality mix. Intimate and sensitive film about the transition to adulthood.
