Introducing
Thirty years after its release, Close Up retains its power of fascination intact and there seems to be no end to the avenues of reflection that the film opens up on the very nature of cinema. In collaboration with Sabzian, introduction by Gerard-Jan Claes.
Synopsis
By posing as the famous Iranian filmmaker Makhmalbaf, a poor and unemployed man, Ali Sabzian, abuses a bourgeois family. Kiarostami films his trial for fraud and reconstructs, with the interested parties themselves, this game of roles, of dupes and dreams with cinema.
