The Folon Foundation presents “Jirô Taniguchi: A Distant Portrait,” the first exhibition in Europe in over a decade dedicated to the master of manga.
Organized in close collaboration with Furari Co., Ltd. (Tokyo), Casterman Publishing, the French Copyright Office (Tokyo), and Wallonie-Bruxelles International, this exceptional exhibition showcases more than 160 panels, including numerous originals on exclusive display.
As part of the celebrations marking 160 years of friendship between Belgium and Japan, the exhibition invites visitors to immerse themselves in the sensitive, poetic, and deeply human world of the famous mangaka. A unique opportunity to discover the work of a major figure in Japanese comics. Jirô Taniguchi (Tottori 1947 – Tokyo 2017) holds a unique place in the history of manga. Best known for Quartier Lointain, The Man Who Walks, and The Summit of the Gods, this Japanese artist and writer developed a deeply personal body of work. A prolific author, he explored a wide variety of genres throughout his career: intimate narratives, crime thrillers, Westerns, historical chronicles, adventure stories, fantasy, animal tales, and even culinary manga.
Throughout the exhibition, Le Cinéma Galeries is hosting screenings of the animated film The Summit of the Gods, accompanied by discussions with guest speakers.
