“The film is frequently shocking in the way it sidesteps the gentility we tend to associate with period drama to reveal how helpless Maud is when confronted by a rapacious patriarchy : “The law is made and enforced by men.”
Irish Examiner
The film’s strength is its patient, cunning building of irresistible crackling tension as cruelty and fear become the dominant forces.
The Arts Desk
‘Lies We Tell’ is concerned with the horrors of its period and how often it is that women are betrayed and gaslit by those closes to them.
