Short film Fár (Intrusion) won a Special Distinction at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. It explores what happens when a seagull hits a window and Anna, a customer inside the café, is unable to shake off the incident.

Gunnur Martinsdóttir Schlüter stars in and directs a thought-provoking film that challenges our collective apathy and disconnection from nature.

The Hypnosis:

Vera and André are in love and in business together. Their current joint venture is a women’s reproductive health app. Vera decides to quit smoking using hypnotherapy as part of her preparations for an important start-up weekend where they are to pitch their concept. Her very first session removes all her inhibitions, resulting in comically awkward and cringe-worthy situations, both at the seminar and with André.

Vera’s new-found liberty provides a critical lens that reveals the performative aspect of professional behavior and the artifice of social etiquette. Any vicarious embarrassment may help us reflect on our social persona, and the ways in which it limits us. It might even help you embrace your own cringe.
