Synopsis
MOTHERS OF THE LAND accompanies five women from the Andean highlands in their daily struggle to maintain a traditional and organic way of working the land. In the Andean Cosmovision, women and earth are strongly interrelated. Both, a women’s body and the earth’s soil are capable of giving and nurturing life. In the context of an ever growing industrialisation of agriculture, the use of chemical pesticides and genetically modified seeds it is women, who, connected to earth through bounds of sisterhood, take on the role of protectors.

De l’Afrique de l’Est jusqu’au fin fond de l’Indonésie, aveuglés par le soleil, nous roulons encore et encore. En mini-bus, en bus, en 4×4. Les paysages varient, les destinations aussi, mais toujours nous croisons ces marcheurs de bords de route qui semblent avoir toute leur vie sur la tête. Telles des fourmis à l’équilibre impeccable, ces femmes qui portent des montagnes de bois, de bidons d’eau, de nourriture, les récoltes des champs aussi. Le dos courbé parfois, mais toujours le cou droit et le regard fixe, elles vont vendre au marché ou ramener les provisions nécessaires à la maison…
