Synopsis
China, 9th century. Nie Yinniang returns to her family after many years in exile. Her upbringing was entrusted to a nun who secretly trained her in the martial arts. A true vigilante, her mission is to eliminate tyrants. Upon her return, her mother gives her a piece of jade, a symbol of the peace maintained between the imperial court and the province of Weibo, as well as a reminder of her broken engagement to her cousin, Tian Ji’an. Weakened by rebellions, the Emperor has sought to reassert his authority by organizing the empire into military regions, but the governors are increasingly attempting to free themselves from his control. Having become governor of Weibo, Tian Ji’an openly defies the Emperor. While Nie Yinniang has been ordered to kill her cousin, she reveals her identity to him by leaving behind the piece of jade. She must then make a choice: sacrifice the man she loves or break forever with the Order of Assassins.
