    Introducing

At the initiative of the Insas Filmclub, Cinéma Galeries will host an exceptional retrospective of the Russian filmmaker Andrei Zviaguintsev.

The event is organised in support of the director.

Come and discover the director’s complete filmography from 2 May 2023.
Andrei Zviaguintsev will be present to accompany the screening of his latest feature film Loveless (2017) on 19 May 2023 as well as a masterclass, presenting, among other things, rarely screened short films, and a signing session for the book around the film Elena (2011) on 20 May 2023.

“Zviaguintsev’s first two films made him appear as an heir to Tarkovsky (The Return and The Banishment). The last ones (Elena, Leviathan, Faute d’amour) show him moving towards a more personal vision of his art. He paints an uncompromising picture of current Russian society, but times have changed since Tarkovsky’s death in 1986. Religion is making a strong comeback in Russia, this time associated with power, allied to it as in the time of the Tsars. In Leviathan we see a very dark side of it, which Zviaguintsev vehemently attacks.”

The INSAS Ciné Club is a project led by INSAS students. It was born out of the need to get together to bring a certain cinema to life. With the aim of responding to the simple pleasure of cinema, forgetting any mercantile objective. The Ciné Club de l’INSAS wants to be an open space where the word is given to the “small” cinema: the one that finds it too difficult to find its place in other spaces dedicated to the 7th art. The aim is to question the cinema of today, to try to draw the features of yesterday’s cinema and to sketch those of tomorrow’s cinema.
